Trion Solutions, Explained for Employers and Worksite Employees
Trion Solutions is a Professional Employer Organization (PEO) and HR outsourcing company based in Troy, Michigan. It provides payroll and tax administration, employee benefits administration, workers’ compensation, regulatory compliance, HR administration and retirement-plan services to client businesses. Trion says it currently manages those HR functions for more than 800 client companies, while its FAQ describes tens of thousands of client worksite employees using its services.
That creates two very different audiences.
A business owner searching Trion Solutions may be evaluating a PEO relationship and deciding whether to outsource payroll, HR administration or risk management.
An employee may see Trion Solutions on a paycheck or W-2 even though they work day-to-day for another company. They may simply need a pay stub, W-2, benefits information or access to an employee HR portal.
[PUBLICATION NAME] is an independent editorial publication built to explain both sides without pretending to be Trion.
We do not operate Trion accounts, collect employee credentials or handle payroll changes.
Start With the Main Trion Solutions Guide
The main guide explains what Trion actually does and why its name can appear on payroll and tax documents for employees of client companies.
Trion operates as a PEO for small and midsize businesses while also providing customized HR support to larger organizations. Its service stack currently includes HR administration, payroll and taxes, employee benefits, workers’ compensation, regulatory compliance and retirement solutions.

Employee Payroll Portal, Pay Stubs and W-2s
Trion’s payroll platform gives worksite employees access to payroll information such as pay statements and W-2s. Current payroll materials describe a 24/7 web portal for employers and employees, while Trion has also published multiple official portal guides over time using both newer HRIS and legacy DNet terminology.
That historical overlap is why employees may encounter several Trion-related portal names in old bookmarks or search results.
The safest approach is to start from Trion’s current employee-support resources rather than a third-party page that merely resembles a login screen.

Payroll and Tax Administration
For employers, Trion’s payroll service goes much further than employee self-service.
Current services include direct deposit and paycards, paper-check processing, online payroll submission, time and attendance integration, payroll-tax filing, union reporting, payroll reports, deductions, garnishments, new-hire reporting and W-2 processing.
Trion also says its general-ledger service can synchronize payroll data with major accounting software to reduce manual re-entry.

Employee Benefits and Retirement Plans
Trion’s benefits administration includes health, dental, vision and life-insurance options along with administrative work such as benefit deductions, ACA compliance, COBRA administration, 1095 reporting and new-hire compliance monitoring.
Retirement is another part of the Trion service portfolio. Current Trion materials describe traditional and Roth 401(k) options, online enrollment, target-date and risk-based allocation funds, a broader mutual-fund window, participant education and access to an investment advisor.

Workers’ Compensation
Workers’ compensation is one of Trion’s most differentiated employer-facing services.
Current Trion materials describe national carrier access, pay-as-you-go billing, claims management from first report of injury through return to work, risk-management assistance and support for employers with difficult experience-modification histories.
That makes the workers’ compensation relationship materially different from ordinary payroll processing.

HR Administration and Regulatory Compliance
Trion also acts as an extension of a client’s HR department.
Its current HR-services materials cover employee recordkeeping, handbook development, I-9 tracking, wage-and-hour issues, FMLA management, unemployment claims, employment verification, hiring practices, employee discipline and other recurring HR tasks.
Regulatory-compliance services address areas including OSHA, EEOC, ADA, FMLA, Department of Labor requirements, immigration-related obligations, COBRA and workers’ compensation rules.

What a PEO Relationship Actually Means
A PEO is not simply payroll software.
Trion describes the relationship as one in which the PEO and client share employment responsibilities and risk, while the client retains control of its employees and business operations. Trion can handle administrative functions such as payroll, benefits and compliance while the client continues to run the underlying business and direct the work.
That also explains why employees can receive a paycheck or W-2 showing Trion Solutions even though another company controls their day-to-day job.
Trion’s current FAQ explicitly addresses that question: it says Trion acts as the administrative employer for client companies and handles payroll and tax filings, which is why a worksite employee can receive a W-2 from Trion.
